FUREVER HOME FOUND!!!!!

Hi Everyone! Please don’t hate me because I’m beeyootiful!! Notice my unusual coloring and fall in love with me for being different instead.

My name is Mia and I am two years old. I’ve had a nice grooming and bath since I came here to rescue, and lemme tell ya – I’m gorgeous! I’ve also been spayed, updated on my shots, had my teeth, ears, and eyes checked and I’m ready to go.

Just a little background about me – I’m two years old and I haven’t had much training. This kinda makes me like a teenager…a rebellious teenager that is. I don’t know my boundaries, and I tend to become aggressive towards dogs who are too dominant or too submissive (okay, so like any teenager, I’m hard to figure out). But I don’t like to be alone either! I have a playmate at the kennel where I live (his name is Scooter – he’s on the website and up for adoption, too!), and he and I have a great time! Boy, that would be fun to find a home with him, but it’s not a prerequisite for adopting me - just a thought...We play like crazy because we are both high energy dogs.

Folks around here think I’d do well in a high energy, active home – one that knows how to keep me in my place in the pack. See, I’m not stupid. In fact, I’m pretty darn smart and, like any intelligent being, I get bored easily so I try to push the envelope a little. I’d be good at agility, obedience, flyball, heck I could probably even herd sheep!!

I know sit, and I know “NO”, I know when I’m being told to behave myself and I do it right away. As long as no one lets me get away with anything (like the jumping thing I like to do), I don’t go too far.

The lady that took me to the vet just the other day says that even though I was pulling on the leash like crazy ‘cuz I was just so happy to be going somewhere, as soon as she said “NO”, I knew exactly what she meant and I stopped. But after a while of being out of the kennel, I settle down and walk fine on the leash. When I was in the crate in the car and started to whine, she said a firm loud “NO” and I stopped whining and settled in right away. I know how to behave – it’s just never been reinforced long enough to stick.

I’m on the wait list for the HOPE program. This is a great program for dogs who need a little extra help. For more information go to HOPE Program.

So the short of it is that I need a home with activity, at least one other dog, and a human pack with experience and who knows how to train errant dogs obedience. Nothing fancy, just the ability to mean NO when they say it, and to read my signals.

I’m also good with kids by the way, at least those in the neighborhood of 6 and up. And I haven’t met a big human who wouldn’t get kisses from me, either!

So if you’re looking to add some beauty, activity, and challenge to your life – well look no further ‘cuz I got it all!

For more information on adopting Mia or any of the other furballs you see on our website, please email us at Adoption Coordinator. For more information regarding blind dogs or dogs with heartworm, please contact us at information@cockeradoptions.org.

Our adoption process begins with an application. If you are interested in adopting this or any of the other dogs on our website, please take a few moments to fill out the application now. We have a busy website, so one of the dogs you may be interested in now could already have an application pending approval. Don’t be left out in the cold – fill out an application now, and you can be pre-approved for the next “perfect” dog you see available. (Of course, we think ALL of our dogs are perfect, but we understand that adopters may have certain parameters based on their own circumstances, ie, kids, other dogs, cats, work schedule, etc.) The pre-approval process is the same as the adoption process, but with the benefit of being ready to go when your dog comes in. Often a dog won’t even make it to the website if we know we already have someone waiting in the wings who we know would be a perfect match for Fido. How simple is that for finding your new BFF (Best Furry Friend)??!!

The medical and custodial expenses of the numerous Cocker Spaniels in our care are tremendous. With the current economy, more and more dogs with urgent and serious medical issues are being abandoned. While we are committed to providing the best possible care for these luckless, voiceless dogs, the increased costs are beginning to take their toll on our ability to do so. What this means is that we are able to rescue fewer dogs, and in turn that means more dogs may be euthanized every day. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our dogs, please consider making a donation.

We know that money is tight everywhere, but even just a few dollars from many people adds up. Think of those dogs still in shelters or on the streets – those without warm beds, full bellies, and the knowledge that they are safe. For just the cost of a few cups of coffee, you can make a tremendous in the life of one of our needy furballs. For other ways to donate, please scroll to the bottom of our main web page.

The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization and your donations are entirely tax deductible.
