Description:
Dolly’s tale is a sad one - so please sit down, take your time and read all about her.
Dolly started her life as a very well cared for show dog. She was a finished champion very early in her career. Her owner / breeder took good care of her and wanted good things for her. She was bred and produced MANY champion puppies over the years.
A few years ago - things started to go bad for her breeder / owner. CSAC was asked to help place 13 dogs because she could no longer care for them. We offered to take them all. Unfortunately, the breeder and co-owner were not ready to "give it all up" and kept showing some dogs, putting up a front, while neglecting the others. And instead of being grateful, they threatened to sue. Whatever.
Fast forward to now - we were contacted again because - amazingly enough, she was ready to relinquish the rest of the dogs. It’s a terrible shame that we could not have placed these dogs 5 years ago - where they would have had loving homes, been a huge part of a FAMILY - been spayed and gotten excellent medical care and treatment. But that was not to be.
Dolly is 12 years old. She has missing teeth, she has skin issues that may be caused by a low thyroid. She has mammary tumors that have likely grown and could have been prevented by getting her SPAYED. She’s arthritic in her hind end. She’s been very neglected.
But instead of being cranky, or snippy, she’s sweet and loving and kind. Despite the care she’s gotten, she’s a survivor. And CSAC will do whatever we can to get her as good as she can be - pain free, hopefully cancer free, and get her thyroid and skin normal.
She’s a beautiful red and white girl. She’s currently being fostered by our valuable foster mom that fostered, and eventually adopted, Dolly’s sister, Robin. She did this as a tribute to Robin - one of the most special dogs she’s ever known. And now, so is Dolly.
Dolly needs a committed owner that will continue the quest to get her as healthy as she can be - right now - there does not appear to be anything MAJOR - but so much neglect. And we get angry. But then you look at Dolly and you see the eyes of a champion, and a fighter, and a sweet momma that says all this is in the past - and let’s go forward together and make a life. She expects very little and is very good in the house and in her crate - she finds some comfort in it. She’s not an active girl (although as we address her arthritic hips, we hope that will improve), and she gets along with everyone.
She’ll enrich your life. She’s already enriched ours.

The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization and your donations are entirely tax deductible.
