02/01/2009: We received the following from Dawson’s foster parents:

We are fostering Dawson and want to tell the story of this cool dog as best as we know it. Looking for a cool, happy cocker spaniel? Read Dawson’s story.

Dawson got bounced around from a shelter in Newark to another New Jersey shelter and then to CSAC. Two of our dedicated volunteers managed to transport him to us at the rest stop on I-95 in Delaware. He met us with a stoicism of someone getting pushed from one handler to the next. I was set to take him to our kennel - I needed a break from fostering - no more foster dogs in a house of seven dogs. Now we are fostering Dawson. He charmed us. After one evening with Dawson charming us we could not send him to the kennel. He has rewarded us with being a great little (actually a bit chunky) guy.

They tell us that Dawson is seven years young. He is very active, loves his walks and is great on a leash. He is housetrained, loves and demands his attention, is a lap dog if you want, and gets along great with the other dogs in the house. Dawson is so easy to have around, we just had to foster him. But he is now one of eight dogs in his foster home and he has to find that forever home that is waiting for him out there. Maybe in your home??? We will hate to see him go but that will make room for another cool cocker spaniel to find a forever home.

The shelter told us that Dawson may have some possession issues with toys and treats but we have not seen them in our time with him. Nevertheless, we do not recommend Dawson in a home with children under 12.

Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out this application.

The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization and your donations are entirely tax deductible.
