Description:
Martha came to CSAC from a shelter in Pennsylvania last October. She had been left at the shelter at the grand age of 12 which, given the condition she was in, was probably the best thing that could have happened to her. Sadly, it was obvious that she had been incredibly neglected in the past. Her teeth were in horrible condition and she limped from a previous injury that had apparently never been treated.
Over the next few months, Martha received proper veterinary care and much TLC from her foster family and has emerged as quite a sweet and comical girl! Martha’s leg had been broken and since veterinary care wasn’t provided, the leg healed itself the best that it could. She will always have a limp and at some point in the future, poor Martha may indeed lose that leg, but for now, she’s on an inexpensive medication for inflammation and pain and her leg doesn’t slow her down a bit! She walks and jumps onto her favorite chair, climbs the stairs, and her leg definitely doesn’t stop her from insisting that she be the first one fed!
Martha’s not your average-looking Cocker Spaniel either…she appears to be mixed with Afghan Hound so her nose is longer and her belly has much more of an arch than the typical spaniel. She is definitely one of a kind with quite a personality to match! She absolutely adores people and anyone that even smiles in her direction is an instant friend. Martha loves to prop her front legs on yours and bury her head in your lap for a good neck scratch and makes adorable little happy-dog-grunts the entire time.
She’s truly been dealt a bad hand in life and while most people might let that defeat them, Martha is amazingly happy and loving. She deserves a home to call her own…one where she’ll be loved and cared for…something she’s obviously only known since being rescued.
If you are not able to help Martha by adopting her at this time, maybe you can help her by sending a donation towards her future care.
If you are interesting in giving Martha a permanent, loving home, please let us hear from you!

The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization and your donations are entirely tax deductible.
